NORTH WEST CANCER RESEARCH FUND
REGISTERED CHARITY No 223598
1 in 3 of us will get some form of cancer at some stage in our lives.
Founded in 1948 as the Friends of the Liverpool Radium Institute, we are one of the oldest independent medical charities in the North West. We are proud of the fact that virtually all of our funds are raised through voluntary efforts. We fund research into all types of cancer, the mechanisms by which they arise and exert their effects.
Our research is carried out at three Universities in the area, Liverpool, Lancaster and Bangor. We usually have around 30 projects underway at any time and on average, each receives approximately £120,000 for a three year study.
Since we began we have raised well over £25 million and during that time we have spent on average, nearly 90p in every pound on actual research. We raise our funds locally to support research locally. A large proportion is raised by volunteers in our branches in the area covering Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, North Shropshire and North and Mid Wales.
We are Members of the Association of Medical Research Charities.
“Research is not glamorous or appealing, but without it the causes of cancer will never be found. Please continue to help us to find the causes.”
